Movement rate

From NWNWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Many factors, including class, encumbrance, magic items, and spell effects all influence movement in Neverwinter Nights.

No character may move slower than 10% of their movement speed (unless held or paralyzed) or faster than 150% of their movement speed. (Being hasted gives a 50% bonus to movement rate.) Movement speed bonuses are discussed under the descriptions for the barbarian and monk. Penalties are summarized below.

[edit] Movement speed penalties

  • Detect and stealth modes: Being in detect or stealth will prevent your character from running. If your character is in both modes, movement speed is reduced to 50%.
  • Encumbered: A lightly-encumbered character cannot run. Heavily-encumbered characters move at 50% of their current movement speed.
  • Entangled: Entangled characters cannot run. Movement speed is reduced to 50%.

[edit] Notes

  • Elves have keen senses: they are always in detect mode and suffer no movement penalty.
  • An elven PC's non-elven henchman may go into detect mode at the end of a cinematic/cut scene, and will remain in that mode until attacking an enemy or until the player instructs the henchman to cancel detect mode.
