Counterspell
From NWNWiki
If a spellcaster enters counterspell mode he can prevent enemy casters from casting spells. To counter a spell, the countering mage must sacrifice a spell they are able to cast at the present time. The more mages that counterspell a single enemy mage the higher their chances of successfully negating a spell during its conjure phase. Lesser dispel, dispel magic, greater dispelling and Mordenkainen's disjunction are universal counterspells and are able to counter any spell that is of the same level or lower. Any spell can be countered by itself if both the casting and countering mage have the spell. Many spells also have specific counters that are usable as counter spells. For example haste can always be countered using slow, with the reverse also being true.
[edit] Notes
- To be able to counterspell the target, the spell that is cast must be recognized via a spellcraft check.
- The correct counterspell(s) must be available for casting at the point of counterspelling.
- Hasted casters can counterspell any other caster if the above requirements are met.
- Casters utilizing automatic quicken spell cannot counter hasted casters.
- Unhasted casters without automatic quicken spell can counter users of quicken spell and thus counter twice per round.
- Lesser dispel acts as a counterspell to spell levels 0-2
- Dispel magic acts as a counterspell to spell levels 0-3
- Greater dispelling acts as a counterspell to spell levels 0-5
- Mordenkainen's disjunction acts as a counterspell to spell levels 0-9
