Channel

From NWNWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A channel is used to direct chat to appropriate recipients, both player characters and non-player characters. This can be thought of as the volume with which something is said. There are six channels available to players in NWN. (Additional channels can be made available through custom content, most notably SIMTools.)

DM: Something spoken in the DM channel can be heard by all Dungeon Masters. Unlike other channels, the speaker does not hear his own speech (unless the speaker is a dungeon master). Text in this channel is light blue.

Party: Something spoken in the party channel can be heard by every memeber of the speaker's party. Text in this channel is white.

Shout: Something spoken in the shout channel can be heard by every character in the module / on the server. Text in this channel is yellow.

Talk: Something spoken in the talk channel can be heard by characters roughly within the visual range of the speaker (including the speaker). Text in this channel is white.

Tell: Something spoken in the tell channel can only be heard by the speaker and the designated recipient. (The recipient is designated using one of the switches listed in the chat bar article.) Text in this channel is green.

Whisper: Something spoken in the whisper channel can be heard only by the speaker and characters standing next to the speaker. Text in this channel is grey.

The default colors for the channels can be changed in nwnplayer.ini.
