The Forgotten Realms is a campaign setting used in the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game.

The focus of the Forgotten Realms setting is the continent of Faerûn, on the world of Toril. Toril is home to many races, most notably the elves, humans and dwarves, and exists at a period of development roughly analogous to Earth's middle ages. Magic is present on Toril and indeed somewhat common, as are the more notable beasts of legend, such as dragons, minotaurs, vampires and werewolves.

There is an ancillary line of written novels available that provides an excellent overview of the Forgotten Realms setting, as well as introducing the reader to some of Toril's more prominent citizens.
