Bludgeoning damage

The term bludgeoning refers to a specific physical damage type caused by certain weapons when "smashing" an opponent with a heavy flat or rounded surface.
- Weapons that cause this type of damage include:
- Blunt weapons: club, flail, hammer, mace, dire mace, morningstar, quarterstaff
- Mage Staff
- Sling
- unarmed attacks
- Many creatures have slam attacks that cause bludgeoning damage.
- The following spells also cause bludgeoning damage:
- Bombardment: 1d8 per caster level, to a maximum of 10d8.
- Ice storm: 3d6 (in addition to cold damage).
- Earthquake: 1d6 per caster level, to a maximum of 10d6.
- Evard's black tentacles: 1d6+4 per tentacle.

- Items like the brawler's belt and greater brawler's belt help to reduce the amount of bludgeoning damage taken in combat.
- Damage reduction can also reduce bludgeoning damage.
