Baldur's Gate
From NWNWiki
Baldur's Gate was a game made by BioWare in conjunction with Black Isle Studios using the Infinity engine and the second edition Dungeons and Dragons ruleset.
The story follows the adventures of <CHARNAME> (as it appears in the script) and up to five NPC followers as he/she attempts to discover his/her origins.
The game is set in the popular Forgotten Realms campaign setting and takes place over 2 huge games (Baldur's Gate & Shadows of Amn) and their addon packs (Tales of the Sword Coast & Throne of Bhaal respectively).
The games were a resounding success in the market and created a positively huge fanbase that is still going strong, despite the fact the games are now many years old which tends to make games obsolete in many player's eyes.
The games also spawned a pair of console spinoffs named Dark Alliance. These games have nothing to do with the plot of the PC games and were less well received than the others. Still, they sold well too and the Baldur's Gate franchise has definitely netted Bioware a lot of money.
Rumours of a Baldur's Gate 3 are still a hot topic on the BioWare forums, although BioWare has officially stated there will be no new games released using the Infinity engine they have not openly denied plans to design a Baldur's Gate 3, nor have they stated they are working on such a title so it is still unknown if there is anything in the works.
