Flat-foot

From NWNWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A character or creature that is caught unawares or otherwise unprepared is considered to be flat-footed. A flat-footed character loses his dexterity and dodge bonuses to armor class and cannot make attacks of opportunity.

A character is considered to be flat-footed when:

  • They are performing a non-combat task.
  • They are in ready mode (have not yet acted in a combat).
  • They move outside of the combat radius.
  • They are entangled.
  • They are prone.
  • They are sleeping.

Some feats/special abilities cannot be used while flat-footed. Some feats/special abilities allow retention of the dexterity AC bonus even when flat-footed.

Flat-footed characters are candidates for a rogue/blackguard sneak attack and/or assassin death attack.

[edit] Notes

  • The uncanny dodge and defensive awareness feats allow a character to retain his dexterity bonus to AC while flat-footed.
  • Dodge bonus AC is always lost while flat-footed.
  • AC gained from ranks in the tumble skill is always lost while flat-footed.
  • The monk AC bonus, and the bonus AC gained from monk levels are never lost due to being flat-footed.
  • The defensive roll feat may not be used while the character is flat-footed.
  • The deflect arrows feat may not be used while the character is flat-footed.
  • A character who is stunned or paralyzed is considered prone and is therefore flat-footed.
  • A character who is petrified is considered unconscious and therefore flat-footed.
  • Taunting is considered a non-combat task that leaves a character flat-footed.
  • A visual clue that a PC has been out of combat long enough to be flat-footed is that the rest icon returns to its default color.
  • A visual clue that a character has been out of combat long enough to be flat-footed is that equipped weapons return to their default animations (resting on a shoulder, for two-handed weapons).
